INVESTMENT CRITERIA


Industry Focus
Slate targets manufacturing, distribution and service businesses; all industries will be considered except banking, real estate, and natural resources; preferred industries include business services, direct marketing, healthcare services, for-profit education, niche software and consumer and retail investments.
Financial Criteria
Cash flow of $500,000 to $5 million.
Geographical Focus
Strong preference for Mid-Atlantic businesses, but will consider companies with headquarters located East of the Mississippi River.
Control
Preference for controlling interest in acquired companies, but will consider minority investments.
Key Business Characteristics
• Stable or recurring revenue
• Identifiable growth opportunities
• Sustainable margins
• High returns on invested capital/limited capital intensity
• Significant barriers to entry and/or significant market share
• Simple, understandable businesses
• Non-cyclical industries
Fees
Slate will pay intermediary and finders’ fees.
